With that in mind, fantasy managers should zero in on running backs whose moves at the deadline could drive massive fantasy implications for their late-season captains.

Jonathan Taylor Continues To Be The Biggest Domino Heading Into Tuesday's Deadline

The Indianapolis Colts star running back leads the NFL in carries with 83 over seven games. However, his volume is down from 86 in six games a year ago. This season, he has just 55 carries, 389 rush yards, and 10 catches for 56 yards and a touchdown. ESPN assessed his trade chances as 30% on Monday, while NFL.com reports multiple teams have discussed him.

Taylor signed a two-year, $44 million extension in August 2026. This coming after an uncharacteristically slow start to his 2026 campaign. And reports also suggest that Indianapolis resident quarterback Anthony Richardson's return has taken the Colts running game under Ryan Grzelak. And that's going to be Taylor's competition in the standard based fantasy.

The Colts on the trade deadline clock, and Taylor is already one of the leading spots in the fantasy marketplace in a dead deal, the team is engaged with 8 teams about a potential trade.

Taylor is currently rostered in 80% of ESPN leagues and 81% Yahoo leagues. If he's moved, he becomes the leading man for any team's backfield that had him. That follows last season by trading Zach Thompson to grab Michael Carter III and Josh Jacobs.

Tony Pollard is an attractive fallback running back plan if Indianapolis retains Taylor

If the Colts trade Taylor, the Colts' other running back, Tony Pollard, becomes an attractive fallback if Indianapolis retains him. The Dallas running back has been a fantasy mainstay since Mike McCarthy arrived in Dallas.

Pollard is also in the final year of his deal and in the finals year of his deal and is expected to be available. One of the key issues that hasn't been addressed is how the $44 million is going to affect the Titans franchise.

The Titans have Tyjae Spears, who is 21 in Tiger Ball Game. That would make Pollard the leading back, improving his value. An oddball week, Pollard had a busy Monday night for his fantasy owners. He had 16 carries, 107 fantasy points, 67 fantasy points, and 6 catches. In his last three games, he is averaging 16 carries and 27 PPG in PPR.

Trade Triggers Worldwide Ripple Effects in Indianapolis and Tennessee

A trade of Taylor or Pollard would have ripple effects beyond their new homes. In Indy, if Taylor is moved, fantasy managers should start paying closer attention to forthrunning back Seth McGowan, who is currently rostering just 6% of ESPN leagues.

McGowan had big weeks in weeks two and three, totaling 36 carries, 84 rushing yards, a rushing touchdown, 2 catches, 10 receiving yards, and 21 of PPG in standard formats. But he has had just 33 carries, 67 yards,, and 45 rushing yards, with no receptions, receptions, and 2 receiving touchdowns. However, if Taylor is moved, McGowan becomes the perfect starting option, and that's a massive upgrade.

In Tennessee, Tyjae Spears has a great value boost with the trade of Tony Pollard. Spears would take more snaps, receiving opportunities, and advanced usage as a runner. It's not a simple drop-in, Spears is a talented young player who can do well,

Contenders Should Monitor Both Players' Fantasy Statuses

The Colts are only 3-4 in 2026 and have already traded Quenton Nelson to the Seahawks and DeForest Buckner back to San Francisco. That suggests they may be open to dealing more. However, both Taylor and Pollard have recently signed big deals, so that makes them less likely to be moved.

Taylor, especially, has been a mainstay in Indianapolis, and his extension suggests the Colts aren't ready to move on. But if they do, Pollard, Tyjae Spears, and Seth McGowan are fantasy investors. Contenders should monitor these players' statuses as the deadline approaches.

With the fantasy playoffs right around the corner, those with big title hopes should pay close attention to Taylor and Pollard in the coming days as Tuesday's deadline approaches. And McGowan too. A trade of either player, or both, could reshape the fantasy landscape heading into the most crucial weeks of the fantasy season.
