The sports gambling industry is consolidating, with Fanatics and DraftKings leading the charge toward mobile "super apps" that cater to the full spectrum of wagering. DraftKings and other major operators are bundling betting, casino, and prediction markets alongside fantasy sports, aiming to create one-stop mobile experiences for users.

DraftKings announced a new Sports & Casino "Super App" in March, promising to unite its sportsbook, prediction, casino and lottery products under a single, customized interface. By March Madness, the app offered all players in DraftKings' 44-state fantasy sports footprint an option to choose their "Daily Fantasy Sports or DraftKings Sportsbook" experience, with more upgrades due throughout the year. Then in September, Fanatics launched its Fanatics Sports & Casino app, a single destination for sports betting, casino wagering and prediction markets tied to the sports merchandise giant's wider loyalty ecosystem. Press reports claimed Fanatics' NBA fantasy offering opened more leagues than DraftKings that season.

The app features DraftKings' sportsbook and casino products, along with its fantasy sports app and a new prediction market. It also includes a shared loyalty account - a single wallet that "seamlessly transitions between betting markets."

DraftKings Dubs It "The Ultimate Sports Fan Experience"

DraftKings' "all in one" app marks the culmination of a long-standing merger threat between the company's popular sportsbook and younger fantasy sports product. In 2021, casual daily fantasy was down 40%, while sportsbooks like DraftKings and FanDuel hit $21 million and $19 million in revenue, respectively.

Fortune reported DraftKings said the app aims to "use a single account and wallet to provide customers with more ways to engage with our offerings, tailored to each locale." It also touted the app's omnichannel rewards system, saying it would make it easier to "earn and spend FanCash across our broader Fanatics ecosystem, across over 400 Fanatics.com brands." The Super App promises "extra incentives" including new FanCash options, free-to-play games, more contests, and boosted odds.

Fanatics Cash can be earned through betting, casino play, and market activity, and spent on its wider merchandise, ticket and collectibles ecosystem. Fanatics claims a broader reach than DraftKings in sports, but DFS is not part of their roll-out yet.

Sports gambling platforms have long opened up new markets alongside their existing DFS offerings. The partnership between FanDuel and DraftKings, which launched in 2016, was notable for its limited sportsbook integration. DraftKings' properties were prominent on the FanDuel site, but the two apps remained stand-alone, competing for user engagement and budget. Fanatics' rollout does little for its core national fantasy following, and everything for its growing betting presence in select states. Fanatics Sportsbook is currently available in Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, with plans to expand.

Fantasy sports are depicted as part of a broader gambling landscape, tied to betting, casino, and prediction markets. DraftKings' Super App made a casual entry into its prediction markets, promising a step toward "extra incentives" and changes in reward systems. Fantasy sports, long seen as a gateway, shares juiced rewards with DFS leagues, ear-marked soon to be the primary revenue generators. The app promises "Free-to-Play (FTP) contests with FanCash prizes, unique reward tiers, and other exciting stat-focused incentives."

Unlike public stock day-traders, most fantasy sports platforms don't have investable assets. That left Fanatics' only speculated buyers to be stable mature companies and individual sports teams looking to broaden payrolls. Fanatics' large sports licensing companies Flywheel A.C. applauding Fanatics' new "attract users to the app through bundling products, tailored promotions, and a unified engagement strategy."

DraftKings refuses to discuss their prediction market segment publicly, but most industry experts accept week-long contagion churn isn't a good fit for fantasy sports. Fantasy sports is notoriously expensive. One month ago, DraftKings agreed "to pay $1.34 million to resolve a U.S. civil probe into theft and fraud charges."

The underlying reality is that Wall Street really doesn't care. DraftKings' status as a publicly traded stock is based on its valuable fantasy sports business. "A company with a preeminent fantasy sports brand that had paid no royalties and still remained marketable for decades would always be a contender," Wall Street legend Alice Greenfield said. "If you want fantasy sports, you want DraftKings. If you've got DraftKings, you should be able to access anything," she said.

Gambling platforms like Fanatics are not giving back these user rewards from its market leader products, but still integrating them into America's Fantasy Sports market? These federally regulated market products are bringing DraftKings and sports wagering markets closer than fantasy ($7.35 Billion), allows Partnerships between casinos and these casual fantasy sports products happen more and more through BetMGM, DraftKings, and Fanatics. Partnering with licensed casinos will be more the rule of 2028 than the exception. Partner deals allow for expanded betting on esports and casual fantasy games. Casinos can also offer complimentary services, such as membership to predicted "competitive Fantasy Sports Event" rewards.
